Washington: Former US President Donald Trump has announced his intent to nominate Charles Kushner, father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as the US ambassador to France.
Trump described Kushner as a remarkable business leader, philanthropist, and dealmaker, highlighting his potential to effectively represent the country's interests in France. Charles Kushner, a real estate magnate and founder of Kushner Companies, is a significant donor to Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. His nomination, however, has drawn attention to his 2004 guilty plea on charges of tax evasion and other crimes. Trump had granted Kushner a presidential pardon in December 2020 during his first term.
Jared Kushner, Charles’ son and husband of Ivanka Trump, served as a senior advisor during Trump’s presidency, underscoring the family’s close ties to the former president.
