Washington: US President Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on Chinese President Xi Jinping for hosting Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at a military parade in Beijing marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused the three leaders of “conspiring against the United States” and questioned whether China would acknowledge the role played by American soldiers who “gave their blood” to help liberate the country during the war.

“The big question to be answered is whether or not President Xi of China will mention the massive amount of support and 'blood' that The United States of America gave to China in order to help it to secure its FREEDOM from a very unfriendly foreign invader,” Trump wrote.

He added that many Americans had died in China’s struggle for “victory and glory”, expressing hope that their bravery and sacrifice would be duly remembered. In a pointed sign-off, Trump quipped: “Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against The United States of America.”

The parade in Beijing, attended by some of China’s closest allies, featured rare footage of Kim Jong Un abroad, as he shook hands with Xi. Putin was also seen warmly greeting the Chinese leader, days after their meeting at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin.

The commemoration comes eight decades after China’s wartime suffering under Japanese occupation. The US and China had fought as allies during that period, before relations soured during the Cold War and more recently over disputes involving trade, technology, and geopolitical influence.
