Modi’s birthday: BJP wants people to celebrate it by lighting lamps

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party has called on citizens across the country to light lamps at home and pray for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s long life and good health on his birthday on September 17, turning the occasion into part of the party’s month-long nationwide celebrations.

BJP national president Nitin Nabin has demanded people to light an ‘Ashirwad Ka Diya’ between 6 pm and 7 pm on September 17. The appeal comes as the party prepares to hold a series of programmes under its ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, scheduled from September 17 to October 17.

Nabin claimed that Modi’s 25 years in public life were a sustained period of service to the country and credited his leadership with giving India a new direction. The BJP’s appeal, however, places a strong emphasis on celebrating the prime minister personally, encouraging citizens to mark his birthday by lighting lamps and praying for him.

In a video message, Nabin also highlighted welfare programmes introduced under the Modi government, including Atmanirbhar Bharat, Swachh Bharat Mission and Lakhpati Didi, presenting them as evidence of the government’s impact on ordinary people.

The BJP further cited India’s Covid-19 vaccination campaign and the government’s actions against Naxalism and terrorism while portraying Modi’s leadership as central to India’s growing self-reliance and security. These claims form part of the party’s broader effort to highlight the prime minister’s record as the month-long celebrations get underway.

The lamp-lighting appeal is expected to be a prominent feature of the celebrations, as the BJP seeks to turn Modi’s birthday into a nationwide campaign of public participation and party messaging.

With programmes planned across the country for an entire month, the celebrations underline the BJP’s continued focus on projecting Modi’s leadership and political legacy alongside the party’s organisational activities.
