French director Julia Ducournau's "Titane" bagged the prestigious Palme d'Or award at the Canne Film Festival which closed on Saturday. The film is centred around a young female killer who engages in sexual activity with cars after a traumatic car crash in her childhood.

American filmmaker Spike Lee presented the award after giving away the winner at the beginning of the ceremony. He later apologized for the slip.

The Grand Prix, the second most prestigious award at the festival, was a tie between Iranian director Asghar Farhadi's film "A Hero" and "Compartment No 6" directed by French director Juho Kuosmanen. Leos Carax won the Best Director award for his musical "Annette".

While Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve bagged the Best Actress award for her performance in "The Worst Person In The World", the Best Male Actor award went to actor Caleb Landry for his role in "Nitram".
