Thousands pour into US streets protesting against Donald Trump
text_fieldsWashington, United States: Thousands marched down streets of major US cities on Saturday calling out President Trump’s ‘divisive policies’, news agency AFP reported.
The cities including Washington, New York, Houston, Florida, Colorado and Los Angeles saw protests against Trump’s policies of staff cuts in government jobs, acrimonious trade tariffs and weakening of civil liberties in the US.
Thousands of people, many coming from remoter places, gathered in Washington’s National Mall.
Speakers after speakers at the venue questioned Trump’s policies, rallying opposition to the Republican leader.
One protester identified as Diane Kolifrath, 64, a bike tour guide, claimed that ‘We have about 100 people who have come down by bus and van from New Hampshire’ to protest against Trump administration causing ‘devastation’ to people.
A woman in Los Angeles dressed as a character in Margaret Atwood’s 1985 iconic novel ‘The Handmaid's Tale’ flashed a message on a flag ‘Get out of my uterus’ questioning Trump’s anti-abortion policies.
One man in Denver, Colorado showed a placard reading ‘No King for USA’ amid reports saying that protesters came out on the streets of some European capitals, questioning Trump’s trade policies.
70-year-old retiree Susanne Fest in German capital reportedly accused Trump of causing a ‘constitutional crisis’ alongside saying ‘The guy is a lunatic’ with another, a dual US-British citizen telling AFP terming Trump’s tariff policy as ‘economic lunacy’, adding that ‘He is going to push us into a global recession’.
Trump has triggered unrest across countries following his aggressive trade policies while at home he is heading to downsize the government leaving thousands to lose their jobs.
On the international front, many traditional friends and allies of the US are facing pressure from Trump over trade tariffs just as stock markets tank.
