‘Terror supporter, get out’: student protesters at Israeli minister
text_fieldsTel Aviv: Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir faced fierce protests at a conference at Tel Aviv University, where hundreds of students joined anti-fascist activists in a demonstration against the far-right minister, Israeli National News reported.
Led by the left-wing student movement Standing Together, protesters stood on their chairs and chanted slogans as Ben-Gvir arrived at the podium, attempting to disrupt his speech. The confrontation escalated into heated exchanges and pushing between demonstrators and the minister’s supporters. Some activists lay on the floor near the stage, denouncing Ben-Gvir and his policies.
Protesters accused the minister of endangering lives and contributing to rising crime and record levels of femicide. They also condemned him as a supporter of terrorism and demanded that he leave the campus.
Ben-Gvir responded by accusing his opponents of hypocrisy, questioning why Palestinian political leader Mansour Abbas was permitted to speak while he was being challenged.
Following the incident, Standing Together described Ben-Gvir as a convicted terrorist supporter, according to reports, and declared that he had no legitimacy at the university or elsewhere. The group also denounced his Kahanist government and pledged to work towards removing it from power.
The movement called on voters to reject Ben-Gvir and Kahanist ideology in the upcoming elections, urging them to vote against the minister and his political allies.
The protest underscored opposition to Ben-Gvir’s hardline far-right politics, turning the university event into a confrontation over his political influence and presence on campus.
