Afghanistan’s Ambassador to the UN Ghulam Isaczai

New York: Taliban's new government is not inclusive as they claimed and the Afghan people will not accept a government that excludes women and minorities, Afghanistan's envoy to the UN Ghulam Isaczai has said, reports PTI.

While addressing the UN general assembly at the high-level forum on Culture of Peace, Isaczai asked the United Nations to reject the Islamic Emirate and help them to promote cultural peace in Afghanistan.

He asked the UN to hold the Taliban to account for violating international human rights and humanitarian law, insist on an inclusive government and appropriate treatment of women and girls, respecting their rights.

Isaczai expressed his concerns for Afghanistan under the Taliban's repressive regime. He said that the terrorist group reinstated their Islamic Emirate, violating the resolution passed by the UN assembly eight months ago. The group chose war over peace against those who oppose them.

While the Afghan people craved for peace in the last four decades, the same remained elusive and what they experience were war and destruction, he said. He added that no country would be in peace just because of the absence of war. When its rulers follow extremist and exclusionary policies and ideologies, the country would never have peace with itself, its neighbours or the world.

Ghulam Isaczai was appointed as Kabul's envoy to the UN by former president Ashraf Ghani in June 2021. His reaction was the first from an official appointed by the previous Ghani regime.

On Tuesday, the Taliban had unveiled their interim government led by Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund. Key roles in the government were given to high profile members of the terror group, including granting interior ministry to global terrorist Sirajuddin Haqqani. Haqqani is a deputy leader of the Taliban since 2016 and has a bounty of 10 million USD on his head.

Khalil Haqqani was appointed as acting minister for refugees, and two more from the Haqqani clan were also named to positions in the interim government. Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar will be Hasan Akhund's deputy.
