New Delhi: The Pentagon has approved plans to withdraw from Afghanistan, and it will maintain two large military bases until a certain period along with auxiliary bases, said General Mark Milley, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The US General however did not disclose the details of the bases to be closed. He said that fate of the remaining 2500 US soldiers will be taken by the new US administration.

US military will also continue its assistance to the Afghan security forces involved in a conflict with the Taliban militants, and will carry out counter terrorism operations against the Islamic State and Al Qaeda.

US President Donald Trump had decided halve the capacity of the forces before the Pentagon could make a plan to implement the withdrawal.
