North Korea fires missiles before Japan and South Korea meet
text_fieldsSeoul: Adding to the tension prevailing in the region following its previous test-firing of missiles, North Korea launched another ballistic missile on Thursday, getting into the skin of South Korea and Japan.
The projectile whose details are not yet known was fired off the east coast of the Korean peninsula, new agency AFP reported.
The South Korean military’s joint chief of staff reportedly shared the details of the missile launching conducted in the neighbourhood by recalcitrant North Korea.
After North Korea showcased a series of banned weapon tests recently, the US and South Korea increased their defence cooperation, adding to the volatile situation.
North Korea chose to flex its muscles further in a show of strength by firing another missile before leaders of South Korea and Japan were to meet in Tokyo, according to AFP.
South Korea and Japan are expected to discuss weapon testing happening in their neighbourhood.
Tension is palpable in the area against the backdrop of the joint military exercise that South Korea and the US carry out.
North Korea view the moves by South and the US as ‘a dress rehearsal for invasion’.
Showing its military capabilities, North Korea on Tuesday fired two short range ballistic missiles, South Korean military reportedly said.
This follows firing of two cruise missiles on Sunday by North Korea from its submarine apparently protesting against the joint military exercise by the US and South Korea.
