London: A new book reveals that Prince William’s wife Kate Middleton was subjected to a test to prove she will be able to bear royal progenies, Hello Magazine reports.

King Charles' eldest son, Prince William married Kate Middleton in 2011 receiving unusual media attention as the prince was marrying outside royalty.

Years later the new book, 'Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family', reveals that marriage may not have happened were it not for the test proving her fertility.

The book authored by Tom Quinn made many jaw-dropping revelations about the couple's marriage.

The most notable of the revelations is about the "usual precautions" that were taken about ensuring the couple could beget children.

"These are always carried out to ensure a future queen is able to have children. If Kate had not been fertile, there is little doubt the marriage would have been off," Tom Quinn wrote in the book.

Princess Diana had gone through the same medical test before her wedding to Charles in 1981, the book said.

The author claimed Princess Diana to have revealed to him that she had thought the premarital check-ups had to do with general health, but she realized only later it was actually for fertility.

" 'I was so innocent I just went along with everything at that stage,’ the author claimed Diana as telling him.

Kate Middleton, the author said, must have known precisely what was going on but she was not a rebel.
