Washington: Joe Biden must resign and make Vice President Kamala Harris the first woman president of the United States, although for a short duration, a former staffer of Harris urged Biden.

Former communications director to the vice president, Jamal Simmons, wrote on social media that Joe Biden has been amazing, but he should fulfil one last promise, which is to be transitional, Agence France-Presse reported.

Simmons also told something similar to a Sunday talk show. He told CNN's "Situation Room" Biden has been a phenomenal president, and he lived up to so many of the promises he made. But there is one promise left that he could fulfil, which is being a transitional figure. He could resign the presidency in the next 30 days and make Harris president.

He added that it would turn the tables on Trump, keep Harris from presiding over January 6 and make it easier for the next woman to run.

According to Simmons, if Biden makes such a move, it will make sure that it dominates the news at a point where Democrats have to learn drama and transparency and do things the public wants to see. "This is the moment for us to change the entire perspective of how Democrats operate," AFP quoted Simmons.

Simmons continued that this is something within Biden's control, and if he did it, it would again fulfil his last promise and give Harris a chance to be the 47th President of the United States.

"It would disrupt all of Donald Trump's paraphernalia, right? He'd have to rebrand everything. And make it easier for the next woman president not to have to hold all that weight of being the first," AFP quoted him.

Republican candidate Donald Trump ended up victorious in the November 5 presidential elections in the US, beating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. Trump is expected to take office on January 6.
