Israel allegedly orders execution of its own citizens, soldiers
text_fieldsTel Aviv: Israel reportedly ordered the execution of its own soldiers and civilians during Hamas attacks on Israel. The controversial Hannibal Directive was implemented by the Israeli military to prevent Hamas from capturing Israeli citizens and taking them to Palestine. This became clear in an investigation conducted by the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth. The newspaper published the report on January 12.
The report was published in the Hebrew edition of the newspaper. The newspaper, without releasing further details, reports that on October 7, the Israel Defense Forces ordered its units to implement the Hannibal Directive.
The Times of Israel report says the Hannibal Protocol stipulates the use of maximum force in the event of a soldier being captured. Even killing the soldier is part of this protocol. Protocol states that it is better for soldiers to be killed than to be captured by the enemy.
Meanwhile, according to the Israeli newspaper report, it is not clear how many of the hostages were killed by the army. The reports also state that Israeli helicopters, missiles and tanks destroyed several vehicles carrying hostages to Gaza. It was revealed earlier in November that an Israeli Air Force pilot had implemented the Hannibal Protocol during the Hamas attack. More information about this comes in the media months after the revelation of the soldier.
