Iran says US has responded to its 14-point plan to end war
text_fieldsTehran: Iran has said that the United States has responded to its 14-point proposal aimed at ending the ongoing war, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei.
Speaking in an interview with state-run IRIB TV, Baghaei said the US response is currently under review.
He emphasised that Iran’s proposal is solely focused on ending the conflict and does not include any details related to the nuclear issue. “Nothing pertaining to the nuclear field’s details exists in it,” he said.
Baghaei further clarified that Tehran is currently concentrating on broader parameters for ending the war in the region, including in Lebanon. “At present, we are focused on the parameters related to ending the war in the region, including Lebanon,” he said, adding that “we have no nuclear negotiation at this stage.”
The spokesperson’s remarks were also reported by state media, reiterating that Iran is not engaged in nuclear talks at this point, a long-standing demand from Washington.
Iran has repeatedly maintained that its nuclear programme is peaceful in nature and denies any intention to develop nuclear weapons. However, it remains the only non-nuclear-armed state known to enrich uranium at levels close to weapons-grade.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held separate phone conversations on Sunday with his counterparts in Oman and Germany to brief them on Tehran’s latest diplomatic initiatives to end the war, according to Xinhua News Agency.
In these discussions, Araghchi exchanged views with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on recent regional and international developments, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in separate statements.
The report also referred to events beginning on February 28, when Israel and the United States carried out joint strikes on Tehran and other Iranian cities, resulting in the killing of Iran’s then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, senior military commanders, and civilians. Iran responded with multiple waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and US interests in the region.
A ceasefire came into effect on April 8, followed by talks between Iranian and US delegations in Islamabad. However, those discussions failed to produce any agreement.
