Iran says it struck two Israeli air bases in retaliatory attack
text_fieldsTehran: Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Monday said its aerospace forces targeted two "important and strategic" Israeli air bases in retaliation for Israeli attacks carried out earlier in the day against the Islamic Republic.
In a statement published by its official outlet, Sepah News, the IRGC said it struck Israel's Nevatim and Tel Nof air bases in response to Israeli missile attacks on several radar installations at three locations in Iran.
The IRGC added that all its combat and operational units were fully prepared to conduct operations on all fronts.
Meanwhile, explosions were reported in Iran's capital Tehran and two other provinces early Monday, according to the semi-official Fars news agency. Citing local sources, the report said one explosion was heard west of Tehran, two in the central province of Isfahan, and another near Tabriz, the capital of East Azarbaijan province in northwestern Iran.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Telegram that the Israeli Air Force had struck military targets in western and central Iran on Monday morning.
On Sunday, the IRGC announced that it had launched ballistic missiles at the Ramat David Air Base in northern Israel in response to what it described as Israel's "widespread crimes" in southern Lebanon, including the killing and displacement of civilians.
According to the statement, the Israeli air base had been used to carry out attacks in Lebanon.
Also on Sunday, Ali Abdollahi, chief commander of Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, warned that Israel would face further "crushing and regret-inducing blows" if it expanded its attacks on southern Lebanon and Beirut's southern suburb of Dahieh.
In a related development, an Iranian missile, or debris from an interception, struck a settlement in the occupied West Bank on Monday, damaging three homes, Israel's Channel 12 News reported.
Videos circulating on social media showed a large plume of smoke rising from the area. There were no immediate reports of casualties, according to Israel's Magen David Adom rescue service.
The attack triggered air-raid sirens in the Jerusalem area and parts of the West Bank, while explosions were heard as Israeli air defence systems attempted to intercept incoming missiles.
