Iran and US to resume indirect nuclear talks in Oman on Sunday
text_fieldsTehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has confirmed that indirect negotiations with the United States will resume in Oman on Sunday, with the exact timing to be announced by Omani officials.
During an interview with Shahrara newspaper on Friday, while visiting the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad, Araghchi discussed the ongoing Omani-mediated talks concerning Tehran’s nuclear program and the potential lifting of U.S. sanctions.
Araghchi said, "Our Omani friends asked our opinion about setting the next meeting date on Sunday, and we announced our consent. Apparently, they have spoken to the other side, and up to this moment, the negotiations are scheduled to be held on Sunday."
The minister stated that while Iran’s stance in the negotiations remains principled and fixed, the United States has been sending contradictory signals. He reaffirmed that Iran would continue to insist on its "clear" positions, reports the Xinhua news agency.
Araghchi also stated during the interview that he would visit Saudi Arabia and Qatar on Saturday, where he plans to hold consultations on regional matters and Iran-US indirect talks in Riyadh, before attending the Iran-Arab World Dialogue summit in Doha.
So far, Iran and the United States have conducted three rounds of indirect negotiations—the first and third in Muscat on April 12 and April 26, and the second in Rome on April 19.
A fourth round, initially scheduled for May 3 in Rome, was postponed due to what Oman cited as "logistical reasons."
