‘Intense rocket barrages’ fired at Israeli positions: Hezbollah
text_fieldsBeirut: The Hezbollah group in Lebanon, which is supported by Iran, said on Tuesday that it had fired multiple rocket salvos against Israeli army positions in the Golan Heights "in response" to Israeli bombings on eastern Lebanon the day before.
Hezbollah fighters attacked two Israeli army locations in the occupied Golan Heights with "intense rocket barrages" "in response to the Israeli enemy's attack on the Bekaa" Valley.
According to a source close to Hezbollah, the strike was directed towards weapons depots in the eastern region. About fifty-five rockets were found to be crossing from Lebanese territory, according to confirmation from the Israeli military, AFP reported.
“Some of the projectiles were intercepted, and the rest fell in open areas. No injuries were reported,” the military said in a statement
mentioning that some rockets had started fires. According to the military, one of the launchers from which the missiles were fired was hit by their forces. The Hezbollah movement, which is supported by Iran, launched its most recent offensive after Israel attacked weapons storage facilities in the eastern region of Lebanon on Monday.
That Israeli attack followed the death of a soldier in northern Israel due to Hezbollah fire, the most recent casualty in ten months of cross-border fighting between Israeli forces and Hezbollah
An AFP tally shows that 585 people have died in Lebanon as a result of the fighting, most of them were Hezbollah combatants but at least 128 were civilians. Army data indicate that 26 civilians and 23 soldiers have died on the Israeli side, including in the seized Golan Heights.
Fears of an escalation have grown since Iran and Hezbollah pledged to react to an Israeli raid on Beirut that killed a senior Hezbollah commander, Fuad Shukr, last month, just before an attack in Tehran that was blamed on Israel killed Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas.
