New Delhi: India's External Affairs Minister (MEA), Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, is all set to visit Kuwait via Doha transit on a three-day visit beginning Wednesday upon the invitation of Kuwaiti foreign minister Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah.

The minister will deliver a personal letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Kuwait's new ruler Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and will then head to Kenya on 12 June to chair the 3rd India-Kenya joint commission meeting with his Kenyan counterpart.

The Kuwait news agency (KUNA) cited the Indian ministry as saying, "during the visit, he will hold high-level meetings and also address the Indian community in Kuwait. He will also carry a personal letter from the Prime Minister of India to the Emir of Kuwait." The 9-11 June visit expects to bolster bilateral ties between the two countries. "India is amongst the largest trading partners of Kuwait, and Kuwait is a major supplier of oil for India," the statement added.

"Kenya is an active member of the African Union, with which India has longstanding ties," said the Indian foreign ministry, adding that India and Kenya are members of the United Nation Security Council as well as the Commonwealth. Jaishankar will also meet with the Indian diaspora in Kenya on his 12-14 June visit.

The visit to the two countries, Kuwait and Kenya, is laudable given their efforts for supporting India with medical supplies amidst the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
