Islamabad: Hundreds of Imran Khan’s followers streamed into the streets outside his residence Zaman Park in Lahore to stop his arrest after an anti-terrorism court (ATC) rejected his bail plea.

The drama began after a caravan of police arrived in the streets when workers of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) turned up in large numbers, camping out and chanting slogans.

In the thick of chaos, PTI leader PTI leader Musarat Jamshaid Cheema reportedly said the entire nation would take to streets in the event of an arrest of the PTI chief.

Workers asserted they would stop any attempt to arrest their party chief, creating a unique law and order situation for the authorities.

Protesting workers, holding flags and banners, were in effect creating a scene a from cricketer-turned leader’s career familiar to many of his fans

It looked like their leader was still the same cricket player they adore who is scoring sixes and fours in his residence.

The anti-terrorism court (ATC) rejected his bail plea for a case lodged against protesting outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Geo News reported.

Booked in the case last October, Imran Khan had been on bail on medical grounds after he was injured in the reported assassination attempt in Wazirabad in November last year.

After vainly waiting for one and a half hour for the former president to appear at ATC, Judge Raja Jawad Abbas Hassan refused to extend the interim bail for him, leaving him vulnerable to arrest.

Imran Khan was charged after protests against Toshakhana verdict announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan last October.
