Rawalpindi: Jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sisters were turned away from Adiala Jail on Tuesday, despite an Islamabad High Court (IHC) order allowing family meetings twice weekly—on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Aleema Khan told media outside the Rawalpindi facility that authorities barred entry, prompting the sisters to retreat to a police checkpost. "Usually, police do not allow us to proceed onward and the jail administration informs the court that we did not arrive because of which the meeting could not be arranged," she said. This time, they reached the main gate, ensuring CCTV captured their presence to counter denials.

Aleema declined to reveal how they bypassed initial barriers, fearing it would invite tighter restrictions. Police urged them to leave, citing job risks. The sisters could have lingered but complied.

The 73-year-old PTI patron-in-chief has languished in Adiala since August 2023 across multiple cases. Recent PTI calls seek his transfer to Shifa International Hospital for an eye condition disclosed earlier this year.

The saga echoes prior clashes: in November, a sister filed an IHC contempt petition against the jail superintendent for blocking visits. A December sit-in followed another denial. Despite IHC directives for regular access with family, lawyers, and associates, meetings have been scarce for months.
