Future techs would cut carbon emissions to half, says US Climate envoy

The 50 per cent of carbon reductions to attain net-zero would come from technologies that are yet to be invented, said US Climate envoy John Kerry. Referring to food habits out of meat, the Kerry added that Americans need not "have to give up quality life in order to cut the (greenhouse) emissions", reports The Guardian.

While talking to BBC One's Andrew Marr show, he said that researches are going on how to rear and feed cattle to reduce methane emissions.

Answering Marr's question regarding shutting down coal-fired power stations in the US if the UK called for it in Cop26, Kerry said that Joe Biden had set a goal for the US's power sector carbon-free by 2035. Cop26 is the UN climatic conference to be met in Glasgow in November.

He added that the US president is leading the move to put America on to renewable alternative energy. He said that there are many possibilities of finding technologies for harnessing alternative renewable energy out there.

The US is the second-largest producer of greenhouse emissions globally, after China, and has a high per capita CO2 emission rates.

Kerry had met Pope Francis in Rome on Saturday. He described the Pope as one of the great voices of reason and persuasive moral authority on the climate crisis. He told Vatican News that he thinks that Pope intends to attend the Cop26. Kerry feels that all the leaders of the world need to come together in the fight against the climatic crisis.

Kerry will be visiting London next week to meet the government representatives regarding the Cop26 conference.
