Amid the escalating tensions in the journalism field, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged all countries to implement measures that safeguard journalists. 2nd November is commemorated as the "International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists", according to a resolution passed by United Nations General Assembly.

"I am appalled at the continued and increased attacks against journalists and media workers around the world", UN secretary General tweeted on Monday. "Authorities must ensure that all attacks against journalists are thoroughly investigated and those responsible are held accountable", he added.

To keep the public informed, Journalists are putting their own safety at risk – UNESCO had said in its report published on 3 May, World Press Freedom Day, commemorated amid various reports on decreasing safety of journalists..
