New Delhi: Buckingham Palace has second thoughts about Queen Camilla wearing precious Kohinoor diamond at the coronation of her and her husband King Charles III on May 6, 2023.

The palace officials are reportedly reviewing their previous decision in the backdrop of the BJP's warning that wearing the diamond crown might bring back "painful memories of the colonial past", according to NDTV.

The crown featuring 2,800 diamonds, alongside studded at the front cross with one of the largest cut diamonds of 105-carat Kohinoor, was last worn in 1937 by the Queen Mother, the consort of King George VI.

The BJP claims that the precious diamond rightfully belongs to India.

British daily, the Telegraph quoted a BJP spokesperson as saying that Camilla wearing the crown jewel Kohinoor will evoke painful memories of the colonial past.

The leader added that five to six generations of Indians for over five centuries suffered under multiple foreign rules.

The use of the Koh-i-Noor at the Queen Elizabeth II's death and coronation of new Queen evoke in some Indians the days of British Empire, the spokesperson said.

It is more likely that the palace will use some other diamond from its collection in place of Kohinoor diamond on the crown.
