A British woman, allegedly forced into a marriage with her Pakistani uncle, now risks death by stoning under Shariah law due to accusations of adultery.

According to reports, the woman, who is a former company director in her 30s, was coerced into marrying her mother's brother during a trip to Pakistan in April 2021. She reportedly stayed at his home in a village for about a month, during which time she became pregnant.

In a video that has since been taken down, she explained that her uncle sought the marriage to secure “documentation” that would enable him to move to the UK.

The woman claims he had promised financial security and a settled life but abandoned her once he obtained his documentation. She expressed feeling deceived and sought help, explaining that he had “tarnished” her life.

The situation worsened after her uncle reportedly admitted the marriage to local elders and religious leaders when neighbors informed authorities. The accusations of adultery arose due to Shariah law, under which adultery carries severe penalties, including lashing or stoning.

The woman is now believed to be in the UK, where she returned alone to give birth to her child, while her uncle is reportedly in custody in Pakistan for further investigation.
