Davos/Switzerland: The United States promised continued support to Ukraine when US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday. However, the US's promise comes amid the row on approving funding in Congress, Agence France-Presse reported.

Promising the support and adding that they are working very closely with the US Congress, Blinken expressed hope that European allies would continue supporting Ukraine.

At the Word Economic Forum, where the two leaders met, US President's national security advisor Jake Sullivan told Zelensky that US and its allies were determined ensure Russia's defeat and Ukraine's victory.

Meanwhile, Zelensky thanked the US government and the "bipartisan support" in the US Congress.

He said that the US-made Patriot system helped Ukraine defend arrays of Russian missiles. Zelensky said it helped people survive the large Russian aggression.

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the US has supplied Ukraine with $44 billion worth of military aid, along with billions more in economic support. In December, the Biden administration released a final package, but the rival Republican Party, which controls the House of Representatives, held the funds. They brought up a totally unrelated dispute of illegal migrants entering the country. They are holding the funds and demanding strict action against the illegal migrants.

Also, Republican leaders like Donald Trump argue that Ukraine is unlikely to make further gains against Russia.

The Joe Biden government has tabled the approval for $61 billion of aid to Ukraine. It had tagged the Israel and Taiwan causes along with it, which are the more popular causes for Republicans, AFP reported.
