On early Saturday, a building collapsed in Cairo, killing at least 23 and injuring more than 25, state media reported. Cairo Governate stated that the cause has not been confirmed, and an investigation is underway.

The 10-storey building collapsed at 3 AM in the district of Gesr El-Suez, and the injured were rushed to hospitals in around 40 ambulances. The initial reports recorded the death toll at 5, which was later revised from 16 to 23 by the state media Ahram.

Egypt was already grief-stricken as the country had witnessed another tragedy on Friday after a train collision killed 19 and left 185 people injured. The incident occurred in the Tahta district of southern Sohag province after a speeding train crashed into another, throwing carriages off tracks, according to surveillance camera footages.

Funerals were conducted on Saturday for the victims of the train accident.

Since the 2011 Arab spring movement, Egypt has seen frequent infrastructure accidents due to poor maintenance and lack of investment.
