Google has rolled out two new AI-powered features for Google Translate, aimed at improving live conversations and language learning.

The company revealed that users translate nearly 1 trillion words across Google Translate, Search, and visual translations in Lens and Circle to Search. These enhancements are supported by the advanced reasoning and multimodal capabilities of its Gemini models.

To make cross-cultural communication more seamless, Google has introduced a feature in the Translate app that enables real-time back-and-forth conversations with both audio and on-screen translations. The company stated that this upgrade builds upon its existing live conversation experience.

With the help of its advanced AI models, Google has made live conversations easier in more than 70 languages, including Hindi, Arabic, French, Korean, Spanish, and Tamil. The new live translation feature is currently available in the US, India, and Mexico, Indian Express reported.

How to try Live Translate:

•Head to the Translate app for Android or iOS.

•Tap on ‘Live Translate’.

•Select the languages you wish to translate.

•Start speaking.

Google explained that users will be able to hear translations aloud while simultaneously viewing a transcript of the conversation in both languages on their device.

The feature seamlessly switches between two languages, creating a more natural conversational flow. According to the company, Google Translate can now recognise conversational pauses, accents, and intonations.

This improvement is powered by Google’s advanced voice and speech recognition models, which are trained to isolate sounds effectively, ensuring a high-quality experience regardless of a user’s location.

In addition to live translations, Google is piloting a new language practice feature tailored to individual learning needs.

Whether someone is an early learner, wants to practice conversations, or is an advanced speaker aiming to refine their vocabulary, the feature provides personalised listening and speaking practice sessions.

Google stated that these interactive exercises are generated dynamically and adapt intelligently to a user’s skill level.

Follow the steps below to use the feature:

•Tap ‘practice’ in the app.

•Set your skill level and goal,

•Translation will generate customised scenarios.

In each case, a user can either practise speaking with helpful recommendations or listen to conversations and tap on words they hear to improve comprehension.

Based on the most recent research in language acquisition, the feature was created in collaboration with learning specialists. Additionally, users can confidently develop their language skills and monitor their daily progress.
