Washington: Several complaints have emerged that Facebook and its image-sharing platform Instagram removed pro-Palestine posts and hashtags during the genocidal atrocities of Israel on Palestinians.

Besides users, employees of the platforms have also come forth arguing the same. They claim that during the Gaza attacks, no posts of pro-Palestine sentiment were shown on Instagram. As a result of the criticism, Instagram has decided to make changes to its algorithm, reports The Verge.

Parent company Facebook has reasoned the censure, claiming they prefer not to show reposted content because users prefer to see original content shared by friends. They added that the algorithm would be changed to give equal importance to both original and reposted content in future.

This is not the first time that social media platforms have been criticised for their bias. Recently, Twitter blocked a Palestinian writer from posting. When protests erupted, they backed up, claiming they made a "mistake". After several user complaints that they could not post content regarding Palestine, Instagram declared that it was due to "technical issues".
