Google to donate Rs 113 cr to upskill healthcare sector in India

Bengaluru: Google announced that Rs 113 crore will be donated to improve the healthcare infrastructure and workforce in rural areas. Atul Satija, CEO of GiveIndia lauded the tech giant's commitment to saving lives.
Approximately Rs. 90 crores will be given to GiveIndia for the procurement and installation of 80 oxygen generation plants. Another Rs. 18.5 crore is committed to PATH NGO. Rs. 3.6 crore is for NGO ARMMAN which runs skilling programmes for Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) and 40,000 Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs). 180,000 women are training under these programmes in 15 states.
The leading tech firm added that it will be investing in the efforts to upskill 20,000 frontline health professionals by giving them specialised training in Covid-19 management with Apollo Medskills. The goal is to support the rural healthcare system.
The statement comes at a time when India is gearing up for a possible third wave of Covi-19. Google had already made a donation of Rs 135 crore to support the fight against Covid-19 in April 2021.
Google has already raised $7 million for organisations across the world working to support marginalised communities.
