New Delhi: Financial crisis at online retail giant Amazon is reported to be so deep that the company is selling its offices.

The large scale layoffs of about 18,000 employees appear to be not enough to keep the boat afloat.

To cut cost during the ‘uncertain economic conditions’, Amazon is selling an empty office in California, as per Bloomberg report.

The sale of the property, bought for USD 123 million in October 2021, might incur loss to the company and negotiations on final price is reportedly underway.

Steve Kelly, a spokesperson for Amazon, stated that the company decided to explore selling the Metro Corporate Center site. Kelly promised that Amazon was happy to be part of the local community, and continue deliver for customers.

The decision to sell office comes days after reports emerged about Amazon laying off 18,000 employees.

Amazon sent fresh notice to 2,300 employees warning them about layoffs, news agency Reuters reported.

This comes amid reports of new round of firings to affect employees in the US, Canada and Costa Rica.

Alongside a notice filed at the Washington state Employment Security Department suggest 1,852 workers in Seattle and 448 in Bellevue and Washington will be fired.

Meanwhile, a post on social media by an Indian employee described in detail the upsetting atmosphere at Amazon after layoffs.

The employee reportedly wrote that 75 percent of “my team is gone”, adding that “I don’t feet motivated to work anymore”.

In an emotional note it added “They are firing people in cabins. People are crying in the office”.
