Taking mobiles to India's top10 exports Modi's 2023 vision: minister
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar claimed that making mobile phone exports in India's top 10 export goods is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for 2023, PTI reported.
The government decided to take all required measures to boost the electronic manufacturing ecosystem in the country, and 2023 is to witness the same be widened beyond mobile phones, he said. This includes increasing global share in the hearables and wearables segment, IT hardware, electronic components etc.
He said, "PM Narendramodi Ji's vision for 2023 is mobile phone exports worth Rs 1 lakh crore, with mobile phones featuring in the Top 10 exported category."
Dominated by Apple and Samsung, the mobile phone exports from India was around Rs 45,000 crore.
Though the minister did not specify the measure the government has taken in the matter, official sources informed that government plans to introduce a production-linked incentive scheme for hearables and wearables as well as an upgraded PLI scheme for IT hardware and electronic components.
The minister further said, "We are going to complement our mobile phone successes by broadening and deepening the ecosystem. The deepening strategy has been there in the semiconductor space. It is very clear we want to do more in our component industry. In the broadening, while we are growing in the mobile phone space, we want to do well in IT server and hardware space, wearable and hearable space. These are all areas that are fast growing globally."
He said, "We want to increase our market share in IT hardware and servers. We are today a very small player in that space. We want to increase our market share for components and global market share in wearables and hearables. It is the Prime Minister's goal and objective that in all of these areas, we want to be a significant, trusted partner to global enterprises and consumers. If that requires any additional PLI or policy, we will do it."
The PLI scheme for IT Hardware selected 14 companies for manufacturing IT hardware which includes Dell, Rising Stars, Flextronics Technologies, Lava International, Dixon Technologies etc.
The scheme provides an incentive of up to ₹ 7,325 crores which is linked to incremental investment and sales of locally manufactured goods.
