text_fieldsIndia’s journey at the World Wrestling Championships came to an end on Saturday after three Greco-Roman wrestlers bowed out in the early rounds.
Sunny Kumar, competing in the 63kg category, lost 1-3 to Aref Hosseinkhoun Mohammadi.
In the 67kg class, Anil failed to score and went down 0-7 against Qatar’s Gagik M Snjoyan in his 1/16 round.
Karan Kamboj, wrestling in the 87kg division, was defeated by technical superiority in the Qualification round by American Payton Jacobson.
Earlier in the competition, Suraj Vashishth, who fought in the 60kg category, had reached the quarterfinals and showed promise for the future.
However, the rest of the squad failed to advance beyond the initial stages.
The only medal for India came through Antim Panghal. She clinched a hard-fought bronze in the women’s 53kg weight class, saving the country from a medal-less campaign.
With Saturday’s defeats, India’s run at this year’s edition of the championships came to a close.
