Star wrestler Vinesh Phogat caused a delay in the wrestling trials for the women's 50 kg and 53kg categories, demanding a written assurance for a final trial in the 53kg class before the Olympics.

The ad-hoc committee for wrestling agreed to her request, and Vinesh secured a victory in the 50 kg category, defeating Shivani 11-6, earning a spot in the Paris Olympics Qualification tournament. However, she lost the 53kg bout to Anju by technical superiority 0-10.

Vinesh, who accused former WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment, insisted on the assurance to ensure her eligibility for the Paris Games. The 29-year-old wrestler, who shifted from 53 kg to 50kg, demanded permission to compete in both categories, leading to a peculiar situation.

Despite the IOA ad-hoc panel's announcement of a final trial for the 53 kg category, involving the best four wrestlers who will later compete near the Games, Vinesh sought additional assurances. Wrestlers in the 50 kg class complained about the delay, expressing frustration over the prolonged wait.

A coach present at the trials explained that Vinesh's concerns might be related to potential changes in the selection policy if the federation regains control. However, it was emphasized that the government cannot interfere in selection matters.
