Lucknow: PV Sindhu, India's ace badminton player, entered the quarterfinals of the Syed Modi International badminton tournament women's singles here after a dominant straight game win against America's Lauren Lam on Tuesday.

The two-time Olympic medallist and top seed sealed the second set in furry, finishing it in a mere 33 minutes. The scores were 21-16 and 21-13.

Sindhu had opened the tournament campaign by defeating Indian player Tanya Hemanth for 21-9 and 21-9. She will face sixth-seed Thai player Supanida Katethong in the last-eight stage.

Indian shuttler Samiya Imad Farooqi also entered the quarterfinals of women singles of the tournament beating Kanika Kanwal, an Indian too, for 21-6 and 21-15, PTI reported. Anupama Upadhyay beat Smit Toshnivwal in another match for 21-12 and 21-19.

However, there were expectations that PV Sindhu would have won in the recently ended India open. But she had lost to Thailand's Supanida Katethong in three sets, The Bridge reported. In the tournament, India's Lakshya Sen had beat world champion Loh Kea Yew to win the singles men's title, while Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won three-time world champion duo Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan and won the Super 500 title.

Lakshya Sen had withdrawn himself from the Sye Modi tournament due to exhaustion out of participating in back-to-back tournaments since October last year.
