Tokyo: In a convincing victory in a match lasting close to an hour, Indian star PV Sindhu outclassed World No. 5 Akane Yamaguchi 21-13, 22-20.

The result came after a touch contest in the second game with the Japanese shuttler offering a fierce resistance. Sindhu had to save two game points and she held her nerve to take the match in straight games.

PV Sindhu's Friday performance was a dominant show of skill much reminiscent of her class performance that took her to the World Championships gold in 2019.

Sindhu needed 56 minutes to outclass World No. 5 Akane Yamaguchi 21-13, 22-20 despite a late surge from the Japanese shuttler in a fiercely-contested 2nd game. Sindhu had to save 2 game points as she held her nerve to take the match in straight games.

PV Sindhu is now set to play the semi-final against the winner of the other quarter final between World No. 1 Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan and World No. 6 Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand.
