Olympics Badminton: PV Sindhu enters quarterfinals

Tokyo: India's ace shuttler and world champion PV Sindhu enters into the Tokyo Olympic quarterfinals, beating Denmark's Mia Blichfeldt, reports The News Minute. On Thursday, the 26-year-old world no 7th beat world no 12th in women's singles badminton scoring 21-15 and 21-13.

Repeating her tactics in her last match, PV Sindhu played aggressive and deceptive shots, making Blichfeldt run around the court, while the game spanned only 41 minutes. Blichfeldt, who had defeated Sindhu in Thailand Open in January this year, found the latter too strong for her this time. She could not take her usual game out as Sindhu yanked the game's control out of her from the start itself.

India Today reports that Sindhu sailed wonderfully into an 11-6 lead in the first game. She mixed up her aggression and movement around the court very precisely. Although Blichfeldt found Sindhu's trouble at the latter's backhand side and raced to 11-13 with straight 5 points, she couldn't topple Sindhu. Defeating Blichfeldt, Sindhu sealed the first game in 22 minutes.

Sindhu kept her aggressive foot on to keep the pace as she put a lead of 5-0 in the second game, ultimately finishing it and beating Mia Blichfeldt.

Sindhu will play against the winner of Japan's Akane Yamaguchi and Korea's Kim Gaeun next.
