Novak Djokovic reached another historic milestone at the Australian Open on Monday night, recording his 100th win at Melbourne Park and equaling two all-time records held by Roger Federer.

The 38-year-old opened his 21st Australian Open campaign with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 first-round victory over Spain’s Pedro Martinez.

With the appearance, Djokovic equaled Federer’s record for most Australian Open tournaments played. He also matched another Federer record by starting his 81st Grand Slam tournament, a mark also shared with Feliciano Lopez.

Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, improved his Australian Open record to 100 wins and 10 losses. He has won the tournament 10 times. His career match wins at other majors stand at 102 at Wimbledon and 101 at Roland Garros.

“I like the sound of it. Centurion is pretty nice,” Djokovic said after the match. He added that making history remains a major source of motivation.

Djokovic delivered a dominant performance at Rod Laver Arena, not facing a single break point. He won 93 percent of points on his first serve and hit 14 aces, including one on match point. A running cross-court forehand winner in the opening set drew loud applause from the crowd.

He did not play any warm-up tournaments ahead of the Australian Open, opting instead to focus on recovery and preparation. Djokovic last won a Grand Slam title in 2023. In 2025, he reached the semifinals of all four majors but was unable to overcome the recent dominance of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

Djokovic said his focus now is on winning six more matches, which would give him a record 25th Grand Slam title.
