Women’s T20 WC: India beat Bangladesh; move closer to semis
text_fieldsManchester: India Women moved closer to the Women’s T20 World Cup knockout stage with a five-wicket win over Bangladesh at Old Trafford on Monday.
Bangladesh, after choosing to bat, struggled for fluency despite contributions from Juairiya Ferdous (33) and Sobhana Mostary (22). India’s spinners tightened the screws in the middle and final overs, with Radha Yadav taking 3/28 and Shree Charani claiming two wickets in the last over to restrict Bangladesh to 136/8.
India lost Smriti Mandhana early in the chase, but Shafali Verma counterattacked with a blistering 53 off 34 balls, hitting eight fours and a six. Her innings put India firmly in control before she was stumped.
Bangladesh briefly fought back with quick wickets, but Jemimah Rodrigues (26) and captain Harmanpreet Kaur rebuilt the innings. Deepti Sharma struck the winning boundary as India reached 137/5 in 16.5 overs, securing victory with 19 balls remaining and boosting their net run rate.
