Test 1: India crumbles before South African bowlers
text_fieldsKolkata: South Africa won the 1st Test by 30 runs. India particularly struggled on the day, though it was in a commanding position before lunch at 10/2 when the target was a meagre 124.
Before lunch, Marco Jansen struck twice to remove Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck and KL Rahul for 1.
After lunch, Dhruv Jurel and Washington Sundar attempted to accelerate the scoring, but the former lost a wicket to Simon Harmer. Jurel’s replacement, Rishab Pant, seemed uncomfortable from his first ball, according to Hindustan Times. Harmer himself removed Pant at two off 13 balls.
Ravindra Jadeja came and gave his wicket to Harmer, though he attempted to build a partnership with Sundar, scoring 18 off 26 balls.
It was Aiden Markram who removed Sundar, who kept a grip, scoring 31 off 92 balls.
Harmer struck again, taking Kuldeep Yadav next for one off 13 balls, and later Keshav Maharaj removed Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj.
