Robin Uthappa: IPL Auctions Make You Feel Like Cattle

Indian Premier League (IPL) cricketer Robin Uthappa made some strong statements about how the auctions have been conducted over the years and how they should be changed.

At the recently held mega auction in Bengaluru, Uthappa, who was purchased by CSK for Rs 2 crore, said he felt like "cattle" going into an IPL auction and also compared it to waiting for results after an "examination".

In addition, Uthappa argued for a draft system rather than the usual method of purchasing players.

"The auction feels like an examination which you have written a long time ago, and you're just awaiting the results. You feel like cattle (commodity), to be honest," Uthappa said in an interview

A cricketer's mind goes through some changes when his name is put up for bidding, which, according to the right hand batter, is not a pleasant experience.

" It's not the most pleasing feeling, and I feel that's the thing about cricket, especially in India... everything about you is there for the world to consume and then judge and express their opinions about it. Having an opinion about performances is one thing, but having an opinion on how much you get sold for is quite something else," he added.

Moreover, the 2007 T20 World Cup winner emphasized how difficult it becomes for cricketers to know where they stand as players as the IPL auction usually determines that by how much money somebody is willing to spend on a cricketer.
