ICC unveils Women's T20I Team of the Year 2023, Deepti Sharma sole Indian representative

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the Women's T20I Team of the Year for 2023, featuring Indian batting all-rounder Deepti Sharma as the sole representative from India.

The team, captained by Sri Lanka's Chamari Athapaththu, recognises outstanding performances in the T20 format.

Chamari Athapaththu, the skipper, commenced 2023 with a remarkable 'Player of the Match' display in the Women's T20 World Cup, guiding Sri Lanka to victory over South Africa with a 68-run knock from 50 balls. Athapaththu accumulated 470 runs in the T20 format throughout the year, showcasing a striking strike rate of 130.91.

Australian wicketkeeper-batter Beth Mooney, a key contributor in Australia's T20 World Cup triumph, is designated behind the stumps. Mooney's impactful performances included a tally of 410 runs in the ICC event, displaying an average of 41 and a strike rate of 120.58.

South African batter Laura Wolvaardt, the second-highest run-scorer in the 2023 T20 World Cup with 586 runs at an average of 45, earned her place. Caribbean all-rounder Hayley Matthews, the leading run-scorer in the 20-over format with 700 runs at an impressive average of 63.63, also secured a spot.

England's Nat Sciver-Brunt exhibited her prowess by scoring 364 runs in 2023 at a strike rate of 136 and an average of 15.50. Amelia Kerr, the Kiwi bowling allrounder, showcased her talent by scoring 365 runs and claiming 12 wickets with her leg spin.

Australia's Ellyse Perry, Ash Gardner, and Megan Schutt rounded up the lineup. Perry maintained her aggressive batting approach, amassing 319 runs with a notable average of 45.57 and a strike rate of 151.18. Gardner contributed 234 runs across the year, and Schutt proved formidable for batters, securing 21 wickets at an impressive rate.

English spinner Sophie Ecclestone, with 11 wickets, concluded the T20 World Cup as the highest wicket-taker, further solidifying England's performance.

Deepti Sharma, the only Indian representative in the team, showcased her batting and all-round skills by contributing 106 runs in T20Is.
