New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra urged PM Modi to set a different example, while pointing out that there is a lot of poison in politics today, NDTV reported.

Priyanka Gandhi’s comments came after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in a letter to PM Modi on Tuesday asked him to "discipline" BJP leaders from making "objectionable and violent" statements against senior Rahul Gandhi.

Priyanka Gandhi expressed disappointed at having no reply from PM Modi to Kharge’s letter.

The BJP President JP Nadda responded to Kharge’s letter on Thursday with a list of abuses that Congress leaders had hurled at PM Modi in the past.

The Congress president in his letter highlighted that Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu had called Rahul Gandhi ‘number one terrorist’.

It was also pointed out that Sanjay Gaikwad, an MLA from BJP ally Shiv Sena had offered to give ₹ 11 lakh to chop off Rahul Gandhi’s tongue for his remarks in the US referring to reservation system.

The BJP President JP Nadda, referring to Rahul Gandhi, said the Congress was attempting again to polish and relaunch a ‘failed product’ rejected by people several times.

Priyanka Gandhi said that PM Modi should have personally responded to Kharge’s letter if he had faith in democratic values and respect for elders, adding that asking questions and communicating are part of the ethos of democracy.

Pointing out that there is a lot of poison in today's politics, she said ‘The Prime Minister should have set a different example by keeping the dignity of his post. If he had respectfully replied to the letter of a senior colleague politician, his image and dignity would have increased in the eyes of the public.’
