Shefali to lead U-19 women at T20I WC, South Africa T20I series
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Indian woman cricketer Shafali Verma, also the star opener, has been made captain of India's 15-member squad for the ICC U-19 Women's T20 World Cup to be held in South Africa from January 14 to 29, PTI reported.
The team for the maiden edition of the U-19 Women's T20 World Cup, as well as for the upcoming bilateral away T20 series against South Africa U-19 beginning on December 17, has been finalized by the All-India Women's Selection Committee.
The 18-year-old Shefali has experience in playing two Tests, 21 ODIs and 46 T20Is after making her debut in the senior national team in 2019. She will be the leading Indian woman in the five T20 matches against South Africa U-19.
In the SA series, all matches will be played at Tuks Oval, Pretoria, on December 27, 29, and 31 and January 2 and 4.
India is placed in the Group D of the U-19 Women's World Cup alongside South Africa, UAE and Scotland. In the 16-team tournament, the top three teams from each group will enter the Super Six round, where teams will be pooled into two groups of six each from their top two will progress to semis, scheduled on January 27 at JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom. The final will take place at the same venue on January 29.
