Fifty three years after astronaut Neil Armstrong has taken the big leap for humanity, Nasa again on Wednesday is heading towards exploring the moon.

The ambitious Artemis-1 mission after seeing delays from fuel leaks and glitches finally set out its journey to the Moon.

Rachel Kraft of Nasa's Exploration Systems Development exclusively told India Today that the Space Launch System (SLS) provides a new exploration capability and flexibility for human and robotic missions to deep space destinations.

Kraft added that it "can deliver greater payload volume and departure energy than any existing launch vehicle."

It will navigate through skies for 42 days before the escaping the gravitational pull of the Earth and afterwards it will head towards the Moon's orbit.

There is no soul on the vehicle now but in future it will carry humans to lunar orbit, reminiscent of lunar trip active until 1970s.

Though Artemis-1 is a no-human trip, it still carries three dummies to collect data about vibrations, stress and radiation in space.

The information thus gathered will help humans in future mission to Moon and Mars, according to the report.

Remember on the spacecraft is a male-bodied manikin called Commander Moonikin Campos which was previously used in Orion vibration tests.

It is now fitted with two radiation censors alongside it carries additional sensors under its headrest and behind its seat that will help record data on acceleration and vibration.
