Gujarat polls: couple cast vote in wedding attire, photos go viral

New Delhi: What also caught the Internet's attention amid the heat of Gujarat polls was a newlywed couple appearing in a poll station to cast their vote. Pictures of Kavita and Vaibhav, the couple, standing next to security personnel have gone viral online, NDTV reports.

The couple cast their vote in the Bhuk Assembly constituency of Gujarat's Kutch district.

NDTV describes that at polling booth number 208, the bride appeared in a white floral lehenga with gota, added with Zari work on the blouse. She also sported a traditional red dupatta rimmed with golden embroidery and wore a statement Kundan set.

The groom wore a sherwani, complementing the bride's attire.

During the 2017 Gujarat Assembly Elections, a bride took a break from her Haldi session to cast her vote. Fenny Parekh, the bride, was spotted then standing in a queue to vote in Surat.

The polls in Gujarat are scheduled in two phases. While the first one took the stage on Friday, the next will be on December 5. On Friday, 89 assembly seats went to polls, spread across 19 districts of Kutch and Saurashtra region and the southern part of the state. Till 3 pm, the average voter turnout recorded was 48.5 per cent.

The Election Commissions statistics suggest that 2,39,76,670 voters are enrolled in the list in the first phase, and 5.74 lakh people are from the age group of 18-19 years. The phase includes Surat, which is a traditional BJP stronghold, had played a pivotal part for BJP in the 2017 elections.

The voting in the second phase is for 93 seats, thus, the total seat count is 182. For the absolute majority, a front needs at least 92 seats so that they can form the government in the state.
