Palestine: Screaming and apathy
text_fieldsThe world is witnessing a storm of outrage is raging across the globe even after two years since Israel began its ethnic cleansing against its unrelenting bloodlust in Gaza, Palestine. Massive protests were held in Israel itself. Demonstrations expressing Palestinian solidarity have erupted in the streets of America as well as in various European countries, where hundreds of thousands of people gathered. From there, the protests evolved into a broader anti-war movement, bringing to light humanitarian missions such as the Gaza Sumud Flotilla, which advanced without fear of Israeli blockades. While Israel continues to kill Palestinian children with bombs, shells, and bullets, the surrounding nations and their alliances are unable to make a decision, waiting for America’s nudging. The famine and suffering in Palestine, the horror of genocide, and the misery of innocents are being brought before the world, making humanity witness the collective grief and anger. Those who died in Gaza are not just numbers; they are human beings with suffering and pain. The world is being reminded of them, as well as of cyber mercenaries and sadist forces who celebrate violence. As a reflection of this public outrage, when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rose to speak at the United Nations, various national representatives walked out of the assembly, publicly declaring that they had no desire to listen to a murderer.
The new trend is the younger generation coming forward to strongly oppose blind obedience to Zionism in Israel-aligned America. On October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched an attack in Israel and Israel responded with a genocide over the course of two years and still ongoing, the reaction of the younger generation at that time was not the same as it is now; the data clearly reflects this shift. In America, over 53% of adults no longer support Israel, and they are actively opposing it. About 30 percent of people maintain a ‘legacy of affection’ toward Israel. This public sentiment is influencing politicians, as recent data reported by American media shows. Among Republican representatives under the age of 50, the percentage expressing dissatisfaction with Israel’s actions has risen from 35 to 50%. Among Democrats, this figure is over 71%. These numbers make it clear that the rising protests on campuses and streets are not going unnoticed by politicians. On the other end of the spectrum, the report also states, far-right extremist sentiment in Israel is on the rise, and it is this sentiment that Netanyahu is appealing to.
However, Netanyahu also realises that this is not enough to counter the anti-Israel wave among the American public and across European countries. Weeks ago, he publicly proposed that in the coming years, the country must find its own ways to protect itself, which has raised tensions in Israel. Newly emerging leaders and spokespersons from both the Democratic and Republican parties are stepping back from supporting Israel, a dangerous signal that Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid has highlighted, which also reflects concerns within Zionist circles. This revelation is something Trump is aware of; that is why, even while Israel continues to receive financial and military aid, he opts to overtly criticise Netanyahu. Finally, when the announcement came that Hamas had partially accepted the peace deal, Trump was seen pretending to threateningly ask Tel Aviv to stop the war. Even when the blockade of protests is happening right under his nose, autocratic governments around the world remain silent on Gaza, which in turn strengthens Israel’s and America’s power to carry out the plan to uproot Palestine. Regarding Gaza-related stances, the US is banking on their servility to bend as per America's wishes. However, the silence and inaction of autocratic rulers will change, and Palestine’s appeals will be heard. Even though the Yankee-Zionist alliance has carried out and continues acts of genocide, the world is in a run-up to hold the perpetrators accountable, as revealed by worldwide anti-occupation and pro-Palestine solidarity protests.
