UAE records mild earthquake in Fujairah, residents feel light tremors
text_fieldsThe UAE experienced a minor earthquake with a magnitude of 1.2 late Sunday, as reported by the National Seismic Network stations of the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). The quake struck the Al Raheeb area in Dibba, Al Fujairah, at 10:27 PM, at a depth of 5 km.
According to the NCM, the earthquake was "slightly" felt by local residents but caused no significant impact or damage in the area.
This latest tremor follows a series of minor seismic activities in the UAE in recent months. On September 1, a 2.3 magnitude earthquake hit Fujairah’s Masafi area and on August 18, a 3.0 magnitude quake was recorded near the coast of Dibba.
Earlier this year, on June 8, a 2.8 magnitude earthquake occurred in Masafi at 11:01 PM. Additionally, on May 29, tremors were felt across the UAE from two minor earthquakes in the Oman Sea. On that day, a 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck near Ras Al Khaimah’s coast, followed by another of 2.8 magnitude.
Though minor, these earthquakes highlight the UAE's occasional seismic activity, particularly in the Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah regions.
