UAE, Georgia deepen ties as Sheikh Mohamed meets Prime Minister in Tbilisi
text_fieldsUAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held high-level talks with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in Tbilisi on Friday.
The two leaders reviewed avenues of co-operation in investment, agriculture, renewable energy and sustainability, while taking stock of progress under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed in 2023 and implemented this year. Sheikh Mohamed described the deal as a “milestone” in advancing bilateral economic relations.
Talks also addressed pressing regional and international developments, with both sides reiterating the importance of peace and security.
During the visit, Sheikh Mohamed and Mr Kobakhidze witnessed the signing of an agreement between UAE developer Eagle and Georgia’s Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, further anchoring investment ties. The President also met Bidzina Ivanishvili, honorary chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream Party.
Sheikh Mohamed’s delegation included senior UAE officials and members of the royal family, reflecting the significance of the visit. He was welcomed with full honours at Tbilisi’s Shota Rustaveli International Airport, where both nations’ anthems were played.
The stop in Georgia followed Sheikh Mohamed’s visit to Azerbaijan earlier in the week, where he and President Ilham Aliyev elevated relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, sealing agreements in transport, energy, tourism and shipbuilding.
Georgia, a growing tourism destination for Emiratis thanks to visa-free entry and its cultural and natural attractions, continues to strengthen its profile as a key partner for the UAE’s expanding economic and diplomatic footprint in the region.
Sheikh Mohamed departed Georgia on Friday evening after a farewell ceremony hosted by Mr Kobakhidze and senior Georgian officials.
