The United Arab Emirates and four other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have been ranked among the safest in the world when it comes to walking alone at night.

According to the Global Safety Report released by Gallup, the UAE joins Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain in the top global list for perceived nighttime safety.

Singapore took the number one spot worldwide, followed by Tajikistan, China, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Norway, Bahrain and the UAE.

The UAE and its Gulf neighbors outranked several European nations, including Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Germany, as well as larger economies such as the United Kingdom and the United States.

Gallup, the US-based analytics and advisory firm behind the report, noted that perceptions of safety in the GCC have remained consistently high over the years. The study said this trend reflects more than low crime rates, pointing also to wider societal and governance factors that contribute to public confidence.

The latest recognition of the UAE’s reputation as one of the safest destinations globally supports its growing appeal to residents, investors and millions of visitors each year.
