The UAE has confirmed that Eid Al Adha will begin on Wednesday, May 27, after the crescent moon marking the start of Dhu Al Hijja was sighted on Sunday evening.

The sighting means Dhu Al Hijja, the final month in the Islamic calendar, will begin on Monday.

Authorities said Hajj will start on Monday, May 25, while Arafat Day will fall on Tuesday, May 26. Eid Al Adha celebrations will then commence on Wednesday, May 27.

Saudi Arabia, Oman, Tunisia and Turkey also announced that Monday would mark the first day of Dhu Al Hijja following the sighting of the crescent moon.

The UAE government previously announced Eid holidays for public sector employees from Monday, May 25, until Friday, May 29, with work resuming on Monday, June 1.

Private sector holiday dates have yet to be confirmed.

Dubai’s private schools are also set to close from May 25 to May 29, according to an earlier announcement.
