Sheikh Sultan opens Sharjah falconers club in Al Burair
text_fieldsSharjah: Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the Sharjah Falconers Club on Saturday in the Al Burair area, marking a significant step in promoting falconry traditions and conservation efforts in the emirate.
Sheikh Sultan officially opened the club by unveiling a memorial plaque before touring its facilities. The administrative building houses a lecture hall, a training centre for wireless gliding and drone simulation, a falconers’ library, administrative offices and a dedicated lounge for falconers.
During the visit, the Ruler explored an exhibition showcasing essential falconry tools, hunting equipment and the latest technology used in falconry competitions. He also met with students enrolled in the club’s training programs, learning about the advanced simulation rooms designed to enhance falcon training techniques.
In a meeting with the club’s Chairman and Board Members, Sheikh Sultan was briefed on expansion plans and the club’s efforts to secure titles in local and international championships. He also watched a presentation on the upcoming Sharjah Bird Breeding Centre, which will enable falconers to acquire and care for birds in an optimal environment while incorporating global best practices in bird breeding.
Approving the establishment of the Sharjah Falcon Breeding Centre, Sheikh Sultan emphasized its role in creating a natural habitat that supports mating, breeding and comprehensive healthcare for birds. The centre will operate in collaboration with the University of Al Dhaid. Additionally, the area surrounding the club was approved as a protected zone, ensuring a safe environment for falconry activities and training.
The Board of Directors of the Sharjah Falconers Club expressed their gratitude for Sheikh Sultan’s continued support, which has enabled the club and its falconers to achieve success in various competitions. In recognition of these achievements, the Ruler honoured winning falconers with the Distinguished Falconer Shield.
Sheikh Sultan also visited the Sharjah Falconers Club Clinic, the largest falconry healthcare facility in the Arabian Gulf region. The clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a laboratory, a feather splinting room, a dedicated falconry operating room and a CT scan machine, the first of its kind in the region. It also features a centre for selling specialized falconry sports equipment.
The inauguration of the Sharjah Falconers Club and the approval of the Falcon Breeding Centre mark a significant milestone in preserving the art of falconry while integrating modern training and conservation techniques.
